Hook A Kid on Golf is a nation-wide youth golf program with support from various national organizations.

Locally, Hook A Kid on Golf is organized and administered in Carbondale by the Carbondale Park District. Young people are given the chance to learn the rules, skills and etiquette of gold, and remove the obstacles that discourage kids from playing golf, a “sport of a lifetime”.

As part of the Hook A Kid On Golf Clinic, each youngster is provided with a new starter set of clubs and other golf items needed to begin to learn the game. In addition to being taught the basic swing fundamentals, there are also special presentations dealing with the rules, etiquette, drug and alcohol awareness as well as golf course maintenance. The clinic is one week long and is held at Hickory Ridge Golf Course, generally the second week of June. The age for participation is 8-14.
